Conops flavipes

A member of the conopid (thick-headed) family of flies, Conops flavipes can be found on many garden flowers but is particularly fond of the daisy family (Ragwort). The fly is a parasite of bumble bees which are attacked in mid flight by the female who lays a single egg in the bee. The resultant fly larva then eats the non-vital organs of the bee before pupating.
